Marjorams & Oreganos

These are natives of the Mediterranean Region but have adapted to many countries; forms can now be found in many regions of the world, under different common names. For example, Origanum vulgare growing wild in Britian is called ‘wild marjoram’; while in Mediterranean countries, wild Origanum vulgare is known as ‘oregano’. Most have highly aromatic leaves and are useful culinary herbs, though some are grown just for ornament, and have particularly attractive,long-lasting flowers, ranging from white through pinks to purple. Generally they thrive in sun with good drainage, though some variegated forms can scorch in full sun,or will be greener in shade.
