(Lavandula sp.) The two lavenders traditionally used medicinally are L.angustifolia and L.latifolia (broad leaved).They are rich in essential oils. L. augustifolia is used in aromatherapy and perfumes,it can also be added to cooking.The latter gives a pungent oil used in cleaning products and insect repellent; this plant is mainly grown in spain. L.stoechas was traditionally used as an antiseptic by the Greeks, Romans and Arabs. Lavenders come with a wide variety of leaves,flower colours and sizes. Some are suitable for hedging,some for pots and baskets and some just for the flower garden. Lavenders generally tolerate dry areas and love to be in the sun.
